Kulturakademin i samarbete med GöteborgsOperan
The current situation has shown us once more how important digital teaching and learning formats are and – even more so – will be in the future. Not only at universities but also in training and learning situations in the theatre and event sector. By using augmented reality, we want to specifically support the use of safety-relevant work, e.g. for risk assessment, functional safety checks, remote diagnosis and remote maintenance. We have been working with eight prototypes; six of them are focused on training safety relevant technical processes while two are oriented towards learning lighting and sound technology.
So far, there is only public teaching and no competence-oriented advanced training that could also make it easier for career changers to enter the profession. In order to facilitate competence-based training and learning, the digital.DTHG team has developed new teaching and learning tools in virtual reality in cooperation with teachers and students of the study programme ‘Theatre and Event Technology and Management’ at Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin.

In the first step, the prototypes will be deployed during two-day workshops about safety in the theatre and event industry. Participants can test the prototypes with the glasses we will bring; you can learn, practice and increase your safety skills on stage and demonstrate your competences. Our aim is to encourage you to develop a critical attitude towards safety issues in your work environment.
In return, the feedback and experience gained during the workshops as well as the exchange with international partners will help us to develop the presented tools towards a professional and internationally recognised competence-oriented learning and training method.
DTHG - Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft
The German Theatre Technical Association
The German Theatre Technical Association (Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft / DTHG) is a professional association for event technology based in Cologne. It unites creative, experienced people from many sectors: The members are the experts behind the scenes – in close dialogue with artists they develop effective and technically safe solutions and design stage spaces with craftsmanship.
Hubert Eckart is the managing director of the DTHG since 2008. He studied theatre studies and worked as a dramaturge, artistic director, opera director and general manager at various theatres. In 2000, he founded the production company ABACUSFilm and produced short films, documentaries, audio books and more. He also works as a journalist and publicist.
Vincent Kaufmann studies theatre technology at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin. In 2019 he completed a practical semester in technical management at the Burgtheater Vienna. Since then, he has been working as a lighting designer and technical director in several productions and is already using virtual reality in theatre. After being part of the digital.DTHG-Team he is now responsible for Digitality and New Technologies at DTHG.
