The purpose with this course is to learn how to avoid injuries by working preventively.
The aim is to get tools to keep a sustainable body.
"I’m always talking to dancers about how to strengthen a weakness in the body (often thought of as an injury) where as I would rather be talking to dancers about how to prepare to avoid the injury from occurring to begin with.
As dancers we are constantly being compared to athletes but we very rarely prepare like athletes. We are like athletes preparing for every event at the olympics, as the demands from different choreographers are so unique and different. And then we have the artistic side to what we do to grapple and this often leads to high demand on the body and mind and leaves little time to take care of it as a dancer.
Therefore this will be a short course in strength work for dancers that specifically looks at preventing common injuries in the body and creating a strong but versatile body. We will talk about planning strength work and take a practical look into how we can train certain parts of the body to avoid injury and also help understand the body better.
We will look at ways to connect the body, build strength and also play with movement to keep us active and interested in our strength work. We will look into ways to open our training to be done outdoors and learn how it doesn’t have to always exist in a 2D form in a gym.
With injury being such an individual thing, we will also have 2 Q&A’s during this course where we will have the opportunity to look more at your particular needs and injury concerns and have the opportunity to go through how to recognise in your body some of things you might need to think about when training and rehabbing the body as well as talking through some of the myths around strength training and programming."
